Policy on Faculty and Staff Travel to SARS Areas
University faculty and staff should adhere to alerts and
warnings issued by the State Department, the World Health Organization and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The UNC Environment, Health and Safety Home Page contains a SARS link
that is kept current.
The following policies apply to UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and
staff:
- No
faculty or staff member will be required to travel to any SARS Advisory
area.
- Faculty
and staff should not travel to SARS Advisory areas on University business,
unless travel is expressly for the purpose of studying or assisting in the
prevention or treatment of the disease with the approval of the
appropriate Dean.
- If a
University faculty or staff member travels on University business to a
SARS Advisory area, as a condition of that travel, s/he must agree to
abide by current CDC recommendations for travelers returning from SARS
advisory areas. Faculty or staff
returning from travel to a SARS advisory area must contact the University
Employee Occupational Health Clinic at 966-9119 for any additional
guidance or requirements prior to returning to work.
- If
University travel is not recommended and if funding is not provided by the
University, faculty and staff may choose to travel at their own expense;
however, they must still agree to abide by current CDC recommendations for
travelers returning from SARS advisory areas. Faculty or staff returning from travel to a SARS advisory
area must contact the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic at
966-9119 for any additional guidance or requirements prior to returning to
work.
This Policy shall be effective as of September 16, 2003.
This Policy is maintained by the Office of University Counsel.
