Scholar profile: Samantha Lee
Garner, North Carolina
Biology/Spanish majors
Samantha Lee considers herself boring. Others might disagree.
By the time she graduates from Carolina, this Covenant Scholar will have finished a double major in biology and Spanish. And she will have traveled and studied in Spain. All interesting endeavors, especially given that she leads a busy life.
Of Chinese heritage, Lee followed in the steps of her brother, Sam, who was in the first class of the Carolina Covenant. The two shared an apartment while attending college.
“I’m kind of independent and always on a pretty tight schedule,” Lee says. That’s because she and her brother are focused on finishing school and moving into careers that will allow them to help their mother.
“My mom’s a single mother. Whatever I do, whether it's school, work, or in business, it is to help her. She took care of us, so it’s only fair that we take care of her.”
With her mother now living in Arizona, Lee has that state high on her list of places from which she will launch a career. Lee is also thinking about attending graduate school to earn a master’s degree in accounting.
In the meantime, she’s saving money for a semester in Spain, taking classes and studying, and finding time to spend with friends.
Boring? We should all be so boring!
