About the Facility
Building Design and Technological Enhancement
Classrooms and small instructional spaces are equipped with the latest technological resources to encourage and facilitate distance learning and professional development through clinical experiences. The technologically enriched climate rewards innovation and risk taking.
It also provides an adult learning space that encourages programmatic flexibility. In keeping with the mission of interconnectedness of homes, schools and communities, the Center affords the School of Education and its school partners dynamic opportunities to develop continuing education strategies, outreach/extension activities and networking supports.
The University provides connections back to the central campus network that are more than adequate to meet the needs and support the capabilities of programs at the Center.
Each classroom in the Center is equipped as a "teleclassroom" with built-in capacities and the ability to use portable systems for teleconferencing throughout North Carolina and beyond. With these resources, a signal can be sent over the Internet on two statewide videoconference systems, NCREN and the Information Super Highway. This connection gives the Center access to all the public universities, community colleges and many high schools in North Carolina. For other connections, whether they are one-to-one or one-to-many, the Center uses Web-based desktop videoconferencing software. Space in the multifunctional areas in the Center creates the capacity for a video lab, a program development work area and a training lab.
Benefits
The Center's design and resources offer the following benefits:

- One-on-one or small group collaborative research and study sessions for faculty and teachers.
