About the Facility
School Counseling and Psychology Clinic
A major goal of the School Counseling and Psychology Clinic is to collaborate with the Smith Middle School staff and other service providers to provide high quality services for students, their families and school staff.
Collaborating partners include social services agencies and other units of UNC-Chapel Hill, including the School of Social Work and the School of Public Health. Services are guided by a developmental perspective that recognizes the interactions of all domains of development – academic, cognitive, physical, creative, emotional and social – and a systems perspective that recognizes the importance of interactions among students, families, teachers, school settings and communities.
The School Counseling and Psychology Clinic is a central place for direct services and professional education as well as service development activities, including the following:
- school-wide services designed in collaboration with school staff,
- individual and group counseling, consultation and assessment,
- teacher consultation,
- classroom instruction for undergraduate and graduate students with live or virtual observation,
- ongoing research and evaluation of service needs and procedures and
- professional development opportunities within the district and across North Carolina for school psychologists, counselors, teachers and other staff.
