Thanks to generous private support, the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies will be offering a top-up stipend for graduate student recruitment for the 2013-14 academic year. The Jewish Studies Top Up grant is a $7,000 stipend to enhance what departments are able to offer prospective graduate students, with half given each semester of the student’s first year. UNC departments may nominate prospective graduate students who have a strong interest in the field of Jewish Studies.
Departments may nominate up to two students for this award. Nominations should consist of a single PDF including: a statement of support from the DGS for the student, including why the student’s academic history or research interest appeals to your department and why you want the student in your graduate program, as well as a statement of the level of financial support the department is prepared to offer the student. In the case of departments nominating more than one student, a detailed ranking of the nominees should also be provided.
Please send nominations to ccjs@unc.edu by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, January 25, 2013. The selection committee for the Center for Jewish Studies will notify departments of their selection by mid-February. If you have any questions, please contact me at jmhess@email.unc.edu or 2-4866.
