1. 10/19 - Last call for Bryan Social Innovation Fellowship applications
The Robert E. Bryan Social Innovation Fellowship is designed for aspiring social change-makers who are interested in providing a significant contribution locally, nationally or internationally through the creation of an entrepreneurial project that addresses a community issue or need. Fellows receive enrollment in a public policy course, up to $1,500 to launch their idea, support from APPLES students and staff, and invaluable leadership training and personal development. PUBLIC SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

1. 10/23 & 10/25 - YMCA youth volleyball coaches needed
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA needs coaching volunteers for its upcoming youth volleyball program. Fifth and sixth-graders play Tuesday nights starting October 23. Sixth and eighth-graders play Thursday nights beginning October 25. The program is geared toward beginners. Volunteers must commit to one to three hours weekly and can be assigned to a single team or work with a full age division. If interested, contact Mike Meyen or call 919-442-9622.

2. 1/12/ 2013 - Volunteer to coach YMCA youth basketball
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA seeks coaching volunteers for its upcoming youth basketball program. The eight to nine-week season begins January 12, 2013. Divisions for boys and girls range from pre-kindergarten through middle school. Volunteers must commit one to two hours weekly. The league is instructional, beginner based and fun focused. Volunteers can co-coach with friends or join with other volunteers to lead a team. If interested, contact Mike Meyen.

3. MANO ESL program seeks childcare volunteers
MANO ESL program seeks childcare volunteers to play with Latino children every Monday and/or Wednesday from 7 - 8:15 p.m. at Carrboro Elementary School. Location is near the UNC campus and carpooling is available. If interested, contact Rachel Burns.

4. Spanish translator needed at Habitat Restore
Habitat ReStore is a resale store that accepts and sells gently used household items and building materials. A volunteer is needed short-term to translate marketing and volunteer program materials to create Spanish-language brochures and handouts. Working from home is an option after visiting the ReStore to discuss project details. For more information, contact Rachel Presslein or call 919-403-8668, ext. 103.

5. Heavenly Groceries seeks volunteers
Heavenly Groceries/Comida Celestial located in St. Joseph CME Church on Rosemary Street seeks volunteers for weekly food pick up food for its daily distribution. Daily shifts are 2:30 - 5 p.m. and weekend shifts are 8:30 - 11 a.m. Volunteers must be licensed and feel comfortable driving a van.
