Benefits

Philanthropy Courses

Philanthropy courses are offered each semester in which students learn about the nonprofit sector and the philosophy and practice of philanthropy through working together as a grant making committee. Students manage all aspects of the philanthropic process. They are responsible for researching social needs, designing grant award criteria, reviewing submissions, and awarding funds to select community organizations. Twelve to 15 students are selected for each course through a competitive process. Learn more.

Outward Bound scholarships

Each year, the Carolina Center for Public Service awards up to four full-tuition scholarships to students enrolled in BPSS. Students participate in a 28-day course at the North Carolina Outward Bound School. Students develop practical outdoor skills and work as a team as they undertake progressively more challenging experiences during the course of the program. Learn more.
