Running Dog and Lyre-Scrolls Patterns
 |
The abstract simplicity of the repetitive concentric circles tricks the
eye into seeing movement. The swirling movement is contained within the
"frames" of the openwork border and the central, raised roundel.
The openwork pattern around the disc is a fascinating example of ornamental
metamorphosis. |
The stacked lyre-scrolls merge into the running dog pattern and then back to
the lyre-scrolls that lead once again to the running dog pattern. The overall
effect is one of light, shadow, and movement.
