- Indicated for the benefit of the press that the committee would spend most of its time at this meeting discussing issues related to candidates; therefore we would be going into closed session following Mr. Funk’s remarks.
Mr. Funk’s remarks:
- Spoke briefly of the number of vacancies in southeast in the ranks of chancellors and presidents. The universities of South Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee at Knoxville, as well as Louisiana State University have recently announced upcoming retirements or current openings.
- The University of Wisconsin at Madison, Vanderbilt, and the California system also have, or will have at the end of the academic year, positions to be filled. Vanderbilt has an ongoing search and is on a time line similar to ours.
- Across the country the market place is very active.
Mr. Schwab announced the February 14 and February 28 meeting dates. There being no further discussion items, Mr. Schwab called for a motion to go into closed session.
Ms. Mason read motion to go into closed session; motion seconded by Professor Sayre-McCord. Motion passed.
The committee went into closed session to consider and evaluate the qualifications of candidates under consideration.
Mr. Schwab called for a motion to go into open session.
Mr. Perry presented the motion to return to open session; motion second by Professor Templeton. Motion passed.
Mr. Schwab asked if there was additional business to bring before the committee; there being none, he called for a motion to adjourn.
Ms. Mason moved that the committee adjourn; Mr. Perry seconded the motion. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 5:05 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
