A university's
excellence is defined in large part by the quality and achievements
of its student body. At UNC-Chapel Hill, we are proud to have
some of the very brightest students from North Carolina and beyond.
Each year, Carolina recognizes the very best of the best as recipients
of the Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Academics and Student
Activities and Leadership.
On April
16, 2008, the campus community will come together
to honor these outstanding students for their achievements in academic
endeavors-in the humanities, the sciences and social sciences-as
well as their exceptional leadership to the campus through their
involvement in residential and Greek life, student self-governance,
and many other areas. While departments and organizations
may hold their own ceremonies to recognize talented students, the
Chancellor's Awards Ceremony, held in the Great Hall in the Frank
Porter Graham Student Union, is the only
campus-wide student recognition program at Carolina.
Our University is tremendously fortunate to be able to acknowledge student
excellence and leadership. These special awards are made possible
by individuals - and their families and friends - who have a special
connection with the department or organization presenting the award
and who share Carolina's philosophy of rewarding excellence.
Indeed, rewarding excellence is one of the most effective ways of
fostering excellence, and these awards do just that.
Please join our university
community in recognizing the winners of the 2008 Chancellor's Awards.
