ATN OFFERS AD HOC TELECLASSROOMS IN FALL
Beginning in Fall 2001, ATN Multimedia Classrooms and CIT will offer self-service teleconferencing capability in two of its Ad Hoc Multimedia Classrooms: Gardner 08 and Phillips 328. These classrooms are designed like a typical, self-serve Multimedia Classroom with the added functionality of H.323 teleconferencing to facilitate ad hoc distance education sessions. You may also use these facilities to lead a teleclass event at a remote classroom in which you are the guest speaker.
For more information on how to integrate distance education into your classroom experience, contact Tom Cox, CIT Video Services, at 962-4997. To schedule an ad hoc classroom for teleconferencing or other technology-enhanced special events, call the Classroom Hotline at 962-6702 or link to http://hotline.unc.edu/ to view the ad hoc multimedia classrooms that are available for your special classroom events.
ITRC TIP: CREATING A "SEND-TO RECYCLE BIN" SHORTCUT
This tip allows you to create a shortcut to the Recycle Bin on your "Send To" menu so that you can send files to the Recycle Bin with a right-click instead of having to drag and drop them.
1. Right-click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop.
2. Choose "Create Shortcut" from the contextual menu.
3. Browse to "My Computer", then to the C:\ drive.
4. Go to the Tools menu and select Folder options. Click on the View tab. Click the radio button designating "Show hidden files and folders." Click "OK."
5. For Windows 2000: Open "Documents and Settings." Open your personal
settings folder, and then the "Send to" folder.
For Windows 98: Open "Windows" folder. Open the "Send to" folder.
6. Drag the shortcut to Recycle Bin to your "Sent to" folder.
Now you can delete a file, or a group of highlighted files, by right-clicking on them once and choosing "Send to" "Recycle Bin."
ITRC TIP: NORTON ANTIVIRUS TROUBLESHOOTING
When upgrading to Norton Antivirus (NAV) Corporate Edition from a variety of earlier versions of Norton Antivirus (5.x and NAV 2000 are the most common), problems can arise during the upgrade, generally from the failure of the "uninstall" procedure (e.g., not being able to remove NAV from the "Add/Remove Programs" list in Windows).
Manually removing NAV typically resolves any problems and clears the way for installing the newest version of NAV. To remove NAV's components manually, follow these steps:
1. Remove the "Norton Antivirus" folder (C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus).
2. Remove the "Symantec" folder (C:\Program Files\Symantec).
3. Clear the contents of the Windows Temp folder (C:\Windows\Temp).
4. Delete the "Norton Antivirus" entry from the Windows Start menu.
There are Windows Registry keys that remain, but just removing the above components has worked for a lot of problems. The ITRC does not advise going into the Registry until you have tried these four steps.
