Information Technology Services hopes to upgrade Blackboard, the University's chosen course management system, to version 6.0 for this Fall semester. ITS Center for Instructional Technology has a Blackboard 6.0 informational website at http://www.unc.edu/cit/bb/bb6information/ that discusses what is new, plans for implementation, and training opportunities.
More specifically, the site includes:
-- CIT's presentation, "Blackboard 6.0: Introduction and Implementation," in RealMedia streaming format, PowerPoint, and rich-text;
-- A summary of Blackboard 6.0's new features (in pdf format from the Blackboard company);
-- Question and answer documents that offer answers to approximately 80 UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and staff questions;
-- A document addressing faculty and staff concerns and suggestions about the implementation plan; and
-- Training session descriptions and information on how to register for them. (Training is available for those new to Blackboard and those who are experienced.)

ITRC TIP: MASKING KEYSTROKES IN ACCESS
When you prompt a user to enter a password, it's standard practice to mask the keystrokes of the password by displaying asterisks [*] instead of the letters and/or numbers. However, passwords aren't necessarily the only fields you'll ever need to mask on a form. Some users may request that you mask sensitive information such as account numbers or Social Security numbers.
Access XP makes it easy to mask these entries. Here is how:
1. Open your form in Design view.
2. Right-click on the control whose input you want to mask, and choose Properties. (The control is not the name, but the field area representing the place data will be input.)
3. Set the Input Mask property to Password and close the Properties dialog box to save your changes.
When a user enters text into that field, Access displays an asterisk for each key pressed.
