Directions

The FedEx Global Education Center is located at the corner of Pittsboro and McCauley Streets in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on the western side of the UNC campus. This map shows the GEC along with major landmarks and cross streets, which you may find helpful for navigating the local conference area. Franklin Street, convenient to the FedEx Global Education Center, is home to a wide variety of shops and restaurants.

The CLAC 2008 organizers have prepared a simplified bus schedule (MS Word) for those staying at the Courtyard by Marriott.

Restaurants

Those new to the area may find a list of local restaurants within walking distance helpful (MS Word).

Parking

Parking on campus is extremely limited. The closest UNC visitor parking lots to the Global Education Center are the Dogwood Deck (on Manning Drive across from UNC Hospitals) and the Morehead Lot (on Franklin Street in front of the planetarium). Parking in these lots costs $1.25/hour. See the UNC Department of Public Safety Website to download a map to these and other visitor parking areas.

The Town of Chapel Hill also maintains several pay parking lots downtown. Information and a downloadable parking brochure are available on the Town of Chapel Hill website.

Conference attendees from the Triangle area should also consider taking advantage of Chapel Hill Transit’s free Park and Ride lots.

Travel

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is the nearest airport to Chapel Hill (approximately 20 miles from campus), and is served by most major carriers. Unfortunately there is no airport-hotel shuttle service. Taxi fare is about $35 each way.
