May 26, 2005 Trustees Endorse the
Vision for Carolina North
During its meeting on May 26, 2005, the Board of Trustees
of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill unanimously
endorsed the vision for Carolina North, the university's planned
living and learning community.
Following remarks from Chancellor James Moeser and Tony Waldrop,
Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, the
board heard a presentation from Talbert and Bright, an aviation
engineering and consulting firm, which reported the results
of a three-year study of possible alternate airport sites
to accommodate Medical Air Operations (MedAir). MedAir serves
the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program
and uses Horace Williams Airport for flights to clinics and
education programs around the state.
Talbert and Bright's presentation also included an analysis
of the costs of moving MedAir to Raleigh-Durham International
Airport (RDU) in order to enable development of Carolina North.
Following a period of discussion, the board unanimously approved
this
resolution.
