Howdy, gang! Summer COUP will meet (almost) every Tuesday throughout the summer from 7-10pm in Carroll 111. Our three regular features are: - Yakitate!! Japan 8-16 - More extreme baking action the way you like it! Croissants! Bread baking competitions! SOLAR HANDS~! - Kaleido Star 3-11 - More Cirque du Soleil action the way you like it! See our heroine become a famed circus performer on the Kaleido Stage! Thrill to the shoujoness of it all! BUNNY-SAN, GAMBATANE~! - Maria-sama ga Miteru 4-13 - More Catholic schoolgirl slice-of-life drama the way you like it! Will Yumi spend Valentine's day with Sachiko? Will Rosa Gigantea continue to torment our heroine? http://www.jefflawson.net/anime/stuff/mm10.jpg Okay, so that's a yes. Most importantly, will there be HOT YURI SUBTEXT in every single episode? You betchya! So, those are the regular shows to be shown during the second half of each meeting. Meanwhile, descriptions of the first half: My HiME - A recent Sunrise shounen action show featuring teenagers who discover they have superpowers and that weird shit is going down at school. So, that's a slice-of-life drama, then? Seriously, this may not be the absolute most exciting show to ever come down the pike but it's pretty good for what it does: good action scenes, fun characters, and wacky high school antics. Live-Action Gokusen - More adventures featuring everyone's favorite yakuza high school teacher. As always Yankumi rules the freakin' planet, and if you loved watching this last semester, well you'll love watching it this summer, too. If you haven't seen this show yet, this is a superior live-action television drama, with our heroine trying to keep her class of good hearted high school thugs in line while also looking for romance and coping with wacky yakuza hijinx at home. Gokusen rules. Ebichu - The housekeeping hamster is back for more short episodes about a young woman's sex life and her demented pet, Ebichu. Bizzare prurient humor a go-go! This sort of thing works best in small doses; fortunatly, the episodes are each only 12 minutes long. Eternal Family - An odd Studio 4DegreesC one-shot based on a series of 60 30 second TV episodes about a hapless family in the near future who is subjected to being turned into a reality television show (read: tormented live on-air) without their knowledge. Cue high weirdness and wild animation. Dogtato - It's about a dog...who looks like a potato. What more do you need to know? As this is a 5 minute short we'll be chucking something else into the schedule, or perhaps showing double Maria-sama, as we have 9 meetings and 10 Maria-sama episodes to get through. Pet Shop of Horrors - Think Gremlins with bishounen. An unusual pet store is happy to offer all sorts of unique pets to it's customers. However, if the customers can't be bothered to follow their pet's special care instructions, well, the store can't be held responsible to the horrific things that happen, now can they? A four part self-contained OVA series based on a manga that Britt absolutely adores. Dokoru-chan - Saying too much about this show would spoil the suprise. Let's just say the Dokoru-chan is about a young man who is visited by an angel from heaven and that it's not at all what you think it is. Eyeshield 21 - It's a shounen sports anime about American football. No, really, American football. Our hapless hero is cornered by all two members of the football team, a vicious, spikey haired thug who resorts to blackmail to draft members and a huge, loveable linebacker who looks like a huge chestnut. Cue sports and wacky hijinx. I realize that this sounds dumber than a sack of hammers, but it's really pretty entertaining as long as you can embrace the inherent goofiness of it all. Yokohoma Shopping Log: Quiet Country Cafe - The sequel series to the original Yokohoma Shopping Log, this show features the most incredibly mellow post-apocolyptic future you'll ever see. Our heroine, Alpha, is a robot whose former master left her in charge of a cafe. She now spends her days running the restaurant, exploring the world around her, and generally having a very relaxing time of it. This is about as slice of life as it gets, but in a good way. The SF elements are generally quite subtle; you wouldn't know that Alpha was a robot if they hadn't told you, everything is quite peaceful but Alpha carries a pistol when she goes outside, and everything is slowly decaying but not yet in a state of complete collapse. It's intriguing and very, very, very laid-back. Cromartie High School - More absurdist high school thug humor. Woo! Shin Aim for the Ace movie - We've shown this raw before, but that was a while back and I'm sure we'll all get a lot more out of this with subtitles. It's the story of suprise tennis prodigy Haromi as she struggles to live-up to the expectations of the driven Couch, impress the cute guy on the men's tennis team, make friends with the aloof Ochofujin, and fend off the Evil Tennis Bitches(tm) who are trying to make her life miserable. This compilation movie is taken from the 1979 remake of the original Ace, so the animation quality is quite good and you get a complete, self-contained story at the same time. And the scene where our heroine is playing Breakout is fantastic. Phil
