Howdy, gang. Here's the summer schedule, as hashed out at last night's meetings: Regular shows: Mushishi - More one-shot stories about a wanderer who can see the insect spirits that cause supernatural disturbances in our lives. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Mushishi is a lovely, atmospheric series with a bit of creepiness thrown in. We'll be starting with episode 5 and watching Mushishi for eight weeks. Welcome to the N.H.K. - The continuing saga of a pathetic shut-in, his raging otaku friend, and their degenerate lifestyles. More incredibly black humor, with a kick in the face here and there for good measure. Painfully funny when it's not just painful, this is the anti-Genshiken. We'll be starting with episode 5 and going through the entire summer session. Honey and Clover II - Finally, we've got more starving art students in love with the sequel series that wraps up the Honey and Clover saga. As this is a twelve episode series, we'll be doubling up on it the last two weeks in lieu of the utterly episodic Mushishi. As for the rotating portion of the schedule: Bartender - More boozing it up with our boy and the Glass of God in a series of one-shot slice-of-life episodes that, naturally, tie in with drinking. The Skull Man - A new action series that's a combination of quiet and retro-themed and, if the opening is anything to go by, incredibly violent, as our masked superhero beats the hell out of the bad guys. Kotetsu Sangokushi - Romance of the Three Kingdoms shoved through the fangirl filter. Bishounen ahoy! Mahjongg Legend Akagi - The title really says it all. His name is Akagi and he completely kicks ass at mahjongg. Did the metal end theme! Overdrive - Goofy new bicycle racing anime, complete with Avex licensed techno soundtrack and shounen tropes a-plenty. Still, it's about bicycle racing, so how can you go wrong? This is almost certainly going to be the polar opposite of Nasu: Summer in Andalusia. Patarillo! - More surreal antics about the brat ruler of the world's richest nation and his hyper-bishounen MI-6 bodyguard. Goofy shounen ai jokes a-plenty, minimailst early-80s design style, and the Cock Robin Dance await! Sasuga no Sarutobi - Another tale of an utterly rotund ninja master who is attending the ninja high school where he dates the cutest ninja girl in the school and, unknowingly, provides every bit of the humor ever seen in Naruto, and then some. Lots of fun in a goofy, early-80s comedy sort of way. Summer Fun Not-COUP - Sponsored by Summer Fun Cthulhu. Maria-sama ga Miteru - A recent OVA series continuing the story of everyone's favorite Catholic lesbian schoolgirl angst-fest. It's a bizzare show where everyone is perpetually freaking out about utterly inconsequential matters, but it's got so much charm that you can't help but love it. (Okay, Mark, I know you don't actually love it.) Besides, the show looks incredible, the OVAs even more so. Hayate the Combat Butler - Recent screwball comedy about a, er, combat butler. Cute girls, bizare gags, and combat butlering supposedly await. Seth, you wanna jump in here? Galaxy Express 999 - Old-school Matsumoto Reiji goodness about an orphan who escapes his home planet by getting a pass on the Galaxy Express from the mysterious Maeter, at which point the two explore the solar system and beyond. Many of these episodes are self-contained fables, so we may pick a specific episode rather than just the beginning. Zambot III - Completely awesome old-school mecha action, with a theme song that you can't help but sing along with. David can provide more details. Gallery Fake - Another story about everyone's favorite counterfeit dealer and gurellia art restorer. Koi no Mon: Otaku in Love - Finally, a live-action feature film about, er, otaku in love. Geek in-jokes abound, including Comiket, Akihabara, maid cafes, and more. Definately recommended to all you Genshiken fans. And there you have it. Phil
