Now and then, bands of otaku actually get organized enough to come together for grand conclaves of geekdom. Here we chronicle those that are occurring "soon", and those that occur "often".
Coming soon:
Stuff?... :: As of this writing, a few people are going to Dragon*Con at the end of August. But this section is perpetually getting out of date, so check the yearly events below for what else might be coming up. I hear we're doing yet another musical at AZ, so prepare yourselves mentally and physically. Allegience or Death and all that.
Yearly Events:
Animazement :: Our local anime convention, right here in the Triangle. Held in late spring, usually on Memorial Day weekend. Traditionally, COUP helps run a video room, gets an ad in the booklet, and generally kicks ass and wreaks havoc all around the con.
Anime Weekend Atlanta :: The next con just down the road, reasonably drivable. Happens in early fall. Traditionally a source of many, many anime music videos.
COUP sakura picnic of Doom :: Every year when the sakura blossoms bloom, COUP tries to put together an on-campus picnic. Pot-luck goodness is had by all.
COUP anime marathons of Doom :: Sometimes, there are cool anime series that need to be shown, but for one reason or another (showed some recently, small target audience, whatever) don't get shown in regular meetings. Hence, the Saturday marathon. We get a room and veg out all day. Hopefully, info on these will appear in the "current" section above as they're scheduled.
COUP beach trip of Doom :: Traditionally in July, after we've all recovered from Animazement. Outer banks a-go-go.
Yaoicon :: Warning - if you're not familiar with "Yaoi" ask someone, preferably in Glock, before signing up for this con. Or read this con report. Also, it's in San Francisco, so a plane flight is required - again, enquire with Glockettes about working things out. If you manage to get there, though, it's a hoot. Lots of doujinshi. 18 and over only, by the way.
