Kevin FitzGeraldSection 601 : “The Role of the University and the Transformation of the North Carolina Economy” will be offered by Kevin FitzGerald of the University of North Carolina ’s School of Government . The seminar will explore historical and current interactions between the University of North Carolina and the State of North Carolina during periods of significant structural changes in the state and local economy.
 
 
Lynn BlanchardSection 602 focuses "The Engaged University" and will be offered by Dr. Lynn Blanchard, the Director of the Carolina Center for Public Service. During this section students will learn about various methods and trends that define an engaged university; explore how institutions help meet the needs of the community through teaching, research, and service; and develop a project that will put what they learn into action. An optional service learning component will require 30 service hours and count towards the Public Service Scholars requirements.
 
 
Jerry LucidoSection 603 will be entitled “College Admission and the Public Interest” and offered by Dr. Jerome Lucido, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Director of Undergraduate Admissions. This seminar will examine college admission and financial aid practices and explore their impact on various aspects of American society and culture.
