Study Guides /  Problem Sets

Click on the Problem Set (or other assignment) you wish to review. Problem sets are provided  pdf formats for you to download and print. Other assignments will be online. Printed copies of the Study guides will not be distributed in class.

Problem sets will be posted here at least a week in advance. You should do the problem set BEFORE you go to recitation. A portion of the problem sets will be designated as home work and will be turned in to your recitation TA during your recitation for the specified week. There may not be a homework assignment every week but there will be at least 6 during the course of the semester. Problem set will only be accepted at the meeting of the recitation for which you are registered and are due at the beginning of the recitation. Late homework is scored as zero.

The online tutorials help you work through some of the problems on the Problem Sets.

Instructions:

  • These problem sets will be used in your recitation section.  A portion of the problem set will be completed before your recitation and turned in for a grade. This portion of the problem set is subject to the honor code and you may not receive assistance on the portion of the problem set that is to be turned in.
  • The problem sets also contain a number of sample question and thing for you to think about and discuss in recitation. A lot of beginning economics involves understand deductive logic (theory) as method for gaining understanding about the economy and economic behavior. If you really understand the theory, you can work problems with it. I will use these problem sets as the basis for many of the exam questions. I often take problems right off the problem sets and put them on the exam. If you cannot work the problem sets, you will have real difficulties with the exams.
  • I do not provide answer keys for the problem sets. The TAs will decide whether or not they wish to produce and post answer keys. If keys are produced, they will be posted here. A major skill is knowing enough about the material to KNOW when you have the right answer. Life does not come with an answer key.
