The bulk of my service was done at the Weaver Street Market Cooperative where I volunteered on Sunday mornings from 8:30-11:30. Although not closely related to my academic area of history and international conflict, I appreciated this opportunity and learned a lot from my time at this cooperative.  Weaver Street's principles, which I have listed above, are exemplary and what I believe every business, government agency and non-profit should aspire to. I discovered Weaver Street as a freshmen at UNC and have embraced their values of community, healthy living and supporting the environment ever since. I worked in the center aisle where I labeled the freshly baked bread, prepared brownies and cakes, and restocked foods such as tuna and humus.

The other segment of my service was closely related to recent course work I had completed on peace and conflict resolution. I spent the summer of 2006 in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania studying genocide and civil war. I was able to take what I had learned and finally give back in the form of GuluWalk, an international event to raise awareness and money for the children of northern Uganda who have been affected by a 20 year long civil war. I wrote letters, emailed friends, created a website and ended up with over 40 sponsors donating over 1,100 dollars. I participated in the actual walk in Chapel Hill on November 4th. My website can be viewed at:
