Encyclopedia-Style Entries for Reference Page
Purpose: to provide a concise overview of your assigned topic
Audience: your peers (an "outsider," non-professional
audience unfamiliar with the topic)
Writing Foci: concision, "logos"
Research your topic in Davis library, my office (Greenlaw 405), and online.
Create
a
compact
(200-250
word)
encyclopedia-style entry on your assigned topic, using 4-5 sources. Do not paraphrase
bits from various sources. Instead, familiarize yourself thoroughly with the
topic, and then create your own summary with supporting evidence from
a
variety
of
sources.
Hit all the high points, providing appropriate (but brief) supporting examples. Your group and others from the class will reference and quote your short essay, so make it professional in content and voice.
Conclude with
an MLA-style Works Cited section that lists each of the sources you used
(whether you directly quoted them or not).
