Course Description:
We will read extensive selections of Homer's Iliad in Greek, using the new version of Benner's edition, and the whole poem in English, in Lattimore's translation.  Our goals will be to gain a command of Homeric Greek while reading closely, and to explore and appreciate the complex issues raised by the poem.  Brief secondary readings, quizzes, midterm & final exams, and a paper.
