1976 Arms Export Control Act Passed to control the export and import of military equipment, including encryption technology
1976 International Traffic in Arms Regulation Implemented regulations for the Arms Export Control Act
1994 CoCom Ends CoCom restrictions end, though remain the standard untill the Wassenaar Arrangement
1996 Wassenaar Arrangement Replaces CoCom for export restrictions from member nations
1996 Executive Order 13026 Non-military encryption control transfered from the Department of State to the Department of Commerce
1999 Bernstein v. US Department of Justice Paper to be published on encryption and including source code protected as free speech
2000 Junger v. Daley Encryption source code to be published for a class is protected as free speech
