What is LAC?

Link to Spanish LAC section- Spring 2002

Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC) introduces the use of a second language into a broad range of academic disciplines, including Political Science, History, Sociology, and numerous other courses within the social sciences and professional schools. This initiative has been undertaken by the UNC Center for Western European Studies, the UNC Institute of Latin American Studies, and the University Center for International Studies with the support of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Senior Associate Dean, Darryl Gless (College of Arts & Sciences).

To date, we have successfully integrated three European languages into the UNC curricula: French, Spanish, and German. In our fourth year of this cycle, the Center for European Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill will fund the development and teaching assistantships of seven courses to be taught during the academic year. These courses include: History 19-The World Since 1945 (Professor Don Reid)-French section; a Fall and Spring section of International Studies 77-Global Issues (Professors Evelyne Huber, Liesbet Hooghe, James Hevia, and John Pickles)- French-Fall & Spanish/German-Spring sections; Political Science 52-Politics in Europe (Professor Gary Marks)-German section; Political Science 52H- Honors-Politics in Europe (Professor Jurg Steiner)-French/German/Italian section; Political Science 128- Politics in Europe (Professor Jurg Steiner)-French/German/Italian research component; UNC School of Law-Comparative Constitutions (Professor Michael Corrado)- French section.
