About Engagement
Engagement is a core component of Carolina’s Academic Plan and a concept promoted by the Center. It refers to public service (i.e. application of knowledge, skills and resources for the common good) that occurs in mutually beneficial partnerships between the university and the community. Carnegie Classification
In 2006, the University applied for and received classification as a "community-engaged university” from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The classification recognizes Carolina's ongoing commitment to fostering community service and engagement among students, faculty and staff. Learn more.
