    Lynn Blanchard, MPH, PhD

    Lynn Blanchard received her MPH and PhD degrees from the UNC School of Public Health, where she serves on the faculty. Formerly, she was associate director of Family Support Network of North Carolina, held faculty appointments at UNC-Chapel Hill and Pennsylvania State University, and directed a community initiative in eastern Pennsylvania. Currently, she oversees development of the Center, including the Public Service Scholars and Faculty Engaged Scholars programs; is a member of the Office of Vice Chancellor for Public Service and Engagement management team and serves as leader of the annual Tar Heel Bus Tour. On the national front, she is co-director of Faculty for the Engaged Campus, an initiative of Community-Campus Partnership for Health.

    In addition to her work at the Center, Lynn serves on numerous campus and community boards including UNC,s Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity, Office of Economic and Business Development, and Presbyterian Campus Ministry as well as the Orange County Partnership for Young Children and the Chapel Hill Rotary Club. In addition, you can often find her at UNC sporting events, as she does her best to attend almost all of them!

    Carolyn is the 2009-2010 NC Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA with the APPLES Service-Learning Program. Before coming to Chapel Hill, Carolyn attended Elon University graduating with a degree in Sociology with an interest in Gender Studies and African-American Studies.

    Carolyn advises student organizers in the Internships, Alternative Fall and Spring Break Experiences, and Service-Learning Initiative committees, as well as supports the development of classroom-community partnerships through service-learning courses. She will also be working with Housing and Residential Education to support the Service and Leadership Living-Learning Community.

    Amy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Carolina with a Bachelor’s in Speech Communications. She has a Masters in Public Administration, a Certificate in Nonprofit Management, and is completing a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Aging – all from UNC Chapel Hill. She has worked at the Center since 2001 and previously served as the Associate Director until 2007 when her daughter was born. In her current part-time position, Amy coordinates development activities for the Center. Prior to this, she worked with a local consulting company that served nonprofit and governmental organizations and for the Triangle United Way. Amy serves on the Board of Directors for Carolina Meadows, and on the Wellness Advisory Board for the Orange County Senior Centers.

    Amy delights in spending time with her daughter and husband. They are often spotted strolling around Hillsborough. Amy also enjoys yoga and dancing.

    Eileen studied Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware prior to transferring to Carolina and majoring in Sociology. She received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her primary role at the Center is to coordinate the Public Service Scholars program.

    She enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering at the North Carolina Museum of Art and Hospice of Wake County, and taking advantage of all North Carolina has to offer from beaches to basketball to bands.







    Jenny Huq

    Jenny earned a BA in History/Pre-Law from Clark University in Worcester, MA, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. As part of her undergraduate education, she studied at St. Andrews University in St. Andrews, Scotland. She continues her interest in international education through her graduate program in International Studies and Public Administration at North Carolina State University.
    Jenny has served as the director of the APPLES Service-Learning Program for eight years and will continue in that role as well as take on administrative responsibilities as associate director of the Center. Prior to working in higher education, she worked for over ten years in nonprofit administration, community development and program management in California, Arizona and South Dakota.

    Jenny enjoys travel and the exploration of other cultures and food with her husband, Zaki and children, Durante and Amadeo.

     

     

    Leslie Parkins

    Leslie Parkins is the associate director for programs and leadership of the APPLES Service-Learning Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Leslie completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies in 1999 from the University of South Florida, a masters degree in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in 2001, and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University in 2008. Leslie spends most of her time establishing and maintaining community-campus partnerships, mainly through service-learning courses. In addition, Leslie is initiating programs to improve the development and support of APPLES faculty, students, and community partners. Leslie lives in Durham with her husband, Grant and their beagle, Dixie.

    Elaine graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. In 2007 she completed her Certification in Nonprofit Management through the UNC School of Social Work. Elaine's role as a Program Officer at the Center is to coordinate the annual Public Service Awards, the Robert E. Bryan and Entrepreneurial Public Service Fellowships, Seagraves Grants for Student Organizations and Outward Bound Scholarships. Additionally she maintains and updates the Center's website.

    In her free time she also plays guitar and sings in local folk duo, Nikki Meets the Hibachi, volunteers on the marketing committee of the NCGL Film Festival and delivers Meals on Wheels.
