Public Service Awards - Overview
The Carolina Center for Public Service honors individual students, faculty, staff and university units and organizations for extraordinary and exemplary public service through annual Public Service Awards. The awards include the Robert E. Bryan Public Service Award, the Ned Brooks Award for Public Service, and the Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award. A description of each and a link to more information and nomination forms are below.
The 2009 nomination cycle is closed. The 2010 cycle will open in October of 2009.
Robert E. Bryan Public Service Award
The Robert E. Bryan Public Service Award recognizes individuals (students, faculty or staff) who, as representatives of UNC-Chapel Hill, have demonstrated outstanding engagement and service to the state of North Carolina. This award is for a particular effort or one-time event (rather than an overall record of service) carried out through the individual’s role(s) in the University rather than that as a private citizen. Students, faculty and staff are eligible. Up to three awards are given annually. Each winner receives a framed certificate and a monetary award. Learn more and access the Bryan nomination forms.

Ned Brooks Award for Public Service
The Ned Brooks Award for Public Service recognizes a faculty or staff member of the UNC-Chapel Hill community who throughout his/her career has, in a collaborative and sustained manner, made a difference in the larger community. The award is based on a sustained record of service over a period of years carried out through the individual’s role(s) in the University rather than as a private citizen. All faculty and staff are eligible. One award is given annually. The winner receives a framed certificate and monetary award. Learn more and access the Brooks nomination forms.

Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award
The Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award recognizes university units for exemplary engaged scholarship (the application of university expertise to address community needs) in service to the state of North Carolina. This award is for a specific (rather than overall) effort, and all university units and organizations are eligible. Up to two awards are given annually.
