Service Scholars
Launched in 2003, the Public Service Scholars (PSS) program provides a framework for undergraduate students who want to strengthen and maintain their commitment to serving communities throughout North Carolina, the nation and the world. PSS encourages students to learn about and practice public service and engagement beyond the scope of traditional volunteerism, including organizational service, policy and advocacy work, fundraising and philanthropy. The program is open to all full-time undergraduate students with at least four semesters remaining at Carolina.

To complete the program, students must meet the following criteria:
Recognition
Students who complete the above requirements by their last semester, are honored for their commitment in the following ways:
- "Public Service Scholar" with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- "Special Recognition in Public Service" with a cumulative GPA of 2.5
- 2.9
