NC State Weekend Results |
|
UNC did extremely well this past weekend at the NC State race weekend. We took one win and multiple top tens putting our riders high in the GC and giving the team second in the road race on Saturday and first in the criterium on Sunday. In Men’s A, Quentin Read finished twenty first after trying to pull in a strong break from Virginia Tech, and Evan Burkhart got twenty fourth after getting stuck behind a wreck coming into the finish. On Sunday Evan Burkhart got nineteenth, scoring UNC’s first Men’s A points in two years, and Quentin Read finished up in twenty second. In Women’s A, Hadley Trotter took the win in the road race, with Julia Tellman in fourth, Monica Foley in 6th, and Heidi Scronce in 7th. In the crit, Julia Tellman took second, although she scored fifteen more points than the girl who won by winning all but one of the primes, Hadley Trotter took third, Heidi Scronce took fifth, and Monica Foley took sixth. In Men’s B, Randall Mauldin took twenty fourth, Geoff Pendry took thirteenth, Richard Frye took seventh, and Dylan Hewitt took fifth in the road race. The criterium was very fast paced but UNC came away with Geoff Pendry in thirteenth, Dylan Hewitt in seventh, Curtis Bergquist in sixth, and Finith Jernigan in fifth. In Men’s C, after chasing back on after getting caught up behind a wreck, Chip Gaul took fourth and Wyatt Yelverton finished in twenty first with the main pack in the road race. In the criterium, Scott Emmers finished strong in twenty fourth. In Men’s D, in his first race ever, Wayne Capps got ninth winning the field sprint easily, with help from Cameron Lanier, who put in a lot of work trying pull the break back in. Congratulations to everyone who raced this past weekend. Let’s get some good results this weekend and prove to the conference we deserve to be first. |

The Tar Heels proved their strength again in Williamsburg at William and Mary’s Tidewater Classic. The team finished second in both the Time Trial and the Road Race behind Navy. This puts the team in second in the conference, four points off Navy. In Men’s A, Quentin Read had a strong finish coming in eleventh during the Road Race Sunday. In Women’s A, Julia Tellman took third in the Time Trial, with Hadley Trotter just behind in fourth, Monica Foley in sixth, and Heidi Scronce in seventh. On Sunday, Hadley Trotter finished second, Julia Tellman in third, Heidi Scronce in fourth, and Monica Foley in seventh. This puts Hadley Trotter first, Julia Tellman second, Heidi Scronce fifth, and Monica Foley sixth in the conference. In Men’s B, after a good effort in the Time Trial on Saturday, Finith Jernigan finished thirteenth after getting in a strong break, and Dylan Hewitt finished fifteenth in a chase group after a lead out from Geoff Pendry in the Road Race on Sunday. Richard Frye also helped escort our women over the line and finished with the field. In Men’s C, McCord Rayburn put in a strong Time Trial on Saturday finishing third, with Chip Gaul in twenty fourth and Wyatt Yelverton in thirtieth. On Sunday, Chip Gual went down while sprinting for second and ended up with fifth, while McCord Rayburn took eleventh and Wyatt Yelverton took twenty second. In Men’s D, Cameron Lanier finished eleventh after missing the break and then went on to race the Men’s C race as well. Good job to all racers this weekend. Most of the team will skip the Navy race in preparation for the Philly Phlyer. |
