We explore the full range of the multifaceted, and interrelated cultures and experiences of Africans and African Americans.
Student Involvement
African and Afro-American Studies is a student focused department, committed to excellence in teaching and advising. We offer numerous opportunities for independent field research and honors projects.
In addition, the Department is an enthusiastic participant in the First Year Seminar program, which allows first-year students to broaden their perspective in small classes with distinguished faculty members.

The African or Afro-American Studies curriculum focuses on the histories, cultures, and cultural linkages of the peoples of Africa and their descendants in the New World.
