The Concentration in African Studies

Major Requirements

All General Education requirements apply. A modern foreign language is required. Swahili, Lingala, Wolof, or Arabic are encouraged for students concentrating in AFRI. More information on these language programs is available through the African Studies Center. Prospective majors are encouraged to take AFAM 101 or 102 to satisfy the historical analysis Approaches requirement and AFRI 101 to satisfy the (non-historical) social and behavioral sciences Approaches requirement and the beyond the North Atlantic world and global issues Connections requirements.

The Minor in African Studies

The undergraduate minor in African Studies consists of fifteen hours. Students are strongly encouraged to take AFRI 101 in General College.
