Teaching Interests:Courses I teach on a rotating basis: AFRI 101, Introduction to African Studies; AFRI 261 African Women: Changing Ideals and Realities; AFRI 262, African Literature; AFRI 264 African Art; AFRI/AFAM/WMST 430 Comparative Studies in Culture, Gender, and Global Forces.
Current Research:
My research interests include nineteenth and twentieth century African social history; comparative studies of Muslim women in Africa with particular attention to the issues of legal status, education, and political mobilization. I have conducted work in conjunction with teaching and research in Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
