Current Research:

My major area of research interest is the political history of Africa since the struggle for independence, and I have an award-winning book in this regard entitled The Congo From Leopold to Kabila: A People's History (London and New York,: Zed Books, 2002) Of my most recent publications (since 2005), the most important is "Challenges to State Building in Africa," published by African Identities, a British academic journal, in Vol. 4, No. 1 (April 2006), pp. 71-88.
