Language Placement If you have any prior knowledge of an Asian language that you wish to study at UNC, you must take the placement test for that language. (This includes transfer students, who must take the placement test before continuing in the language, regardless of what transfer credit they have been awarded.) If you don't intend to take more courses in a language, but are seeking to use your prior knowledge of it to satisfy the foreign language requirement, you also must take the placement test. Native speakers: If you are from a country where the language is spoken, and have had any of your formal education in that language, before seeking to take a placement test you should contact Dr. Fred Clark. Summer placement at CTOPS: When it's time for placement testing at CTOPS, go with the orientation leader who has the Asian languages group. They will bring you to the Asian Studies office, where you will be able to take the placement test if it is available. If not, you will be able to sign up for the next time it will be given, and also get information on placement, registration for language classes, and any related questions you may have.
Fall placement: The following placement tests will be given on Monday, August 18, 2008 (the day before classes start for fall semester). You must register in advance for these tests; to do so, please contact Lori Harris, including your PID and which test you want to sign up for.
To satisfy the language requirement through placement in any other Asian language that is not taught at UNC, please contact Dr. Fred Clark in Academic Services.
