Important Resources with Broad Scope

The Labyrinth: Resources for Medieval Studies
A fundamental resource. Provides "free, organized access to electronic resources in medieval studies." Laid out with admirable clarity, its main page indicates in detail what it offers: connections to databases, services, texts, and images on servers around the world.

Another fundamental resource, rich and complex (though sometimes repeating links to the same sites on multiple pages). It currently comprises the following main sections, each of which has a local search engine:
1) The ORB Encyclopedia: Online essays, bibliography, syllabi; links to other online resources (texts, images). Presented in outline form, beginning with history in chronological periods, and continuing with other topics (Religions, language, culture, women's studies).
2) Library: Orb Text Library, Internet Medieval Source Book, Global Catholic Network Library, and an alphabetical index of individual documents on the web.
3) Reference: a "Guide to Online Textual Resources" (much overlap with "Library") and other links to other useful resources.
4) Teaching: various resources.
5) General: the Middle Ages "for the non-specialist."

Middle English Literature

Anthology of Middle English Literature
A site by Anniina Jokinen with sections on Chaucer, Gawain, Langland, Julian of Norwich, Margery Kempe, Malory, Everyman and medieval drama, and Middle English Lyrics. Texts, discussions, visual arts, sound clips. The site's author describes it as a "labor of love," and that shows.
