Joanne S. Harrell, RN, PhD, FAAN. Dr. Harrell is the principal investigator of these studies. She is professor of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Shrikant I. Bangdiwala, PhD. Dr. Bangdiwala has been a co-investigator with the studies since their beginning. He is Research Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Chyrise B. Bradley, MA. Ms. Bradley was project manager with the studies from 1993 to 2000 and has been working with the studies since their beginning. She is now Research Associate at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and remains a co-investigator on the study.
John F. Chapman, Jr., DrPh. Dr. Chapman has been a consultant with the studies since their beginning. He is now a co-investigator and is Director of the Core Laboratories of UNC Hospitals and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Marsha L. Davenport, MD. Dr. Davenport is co-investigator on the third phase of the studies. She is an endocrinologist with a specialization in treating youth with Turner's syndrome. She is Associate Professor of Endocrinology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Robert G. McMurray, PhD. Dr. McMurray has been a co-investigator with the studies since their beginning. He is a Professor of Exercise Physiology in the Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. James D. Otvos, PhD. Dr. Otvos is consulting
co-investigator on the third phase of the studies. He is a Professor
of biochemistry at North Carolina State University with a specialization
in measurement of lipids and lipoprotein particle sizes. In addition
he is Chief Scientific Officer for LipoMed, Inc. in Raleigh, NC.
Current Consultants:
John F. Buse, MD. Dr. Buse consults with the team regarding
type 2 diabetes development. He is Associate Professor of Medicine
and Director of the Diabetes Care Center at UNC Hospitals.
Former Co-investigators:
Annette C. Frauman, RN, PhD. Dr Frauman was a
co-investigator during the first phase of the studies. At that time she
was affiliated with the University of North Carolina as a pediatric nurse
practitioner with an interest in health promotion. She is now Chair of
Family and Community Nursing at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing
at Emory University.
Amy A. Levine, MD. Dr. Levine was a co-investigator
for the duration of the second phase of the studies. She is a pediatrician
with expertise in obesity in adolescents and currently Pediatric Emergency
Room Physician at UNC Hospitals.
