The Department of Psychology offers a program in Clinical Psychology leading to the Ph.D. degree, and students are admitted to the program only if they intend to work toward the Ph.D. degree. The Clinical Program has been accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1949, and is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. The Clinical Psychology program offers
two
tracks:
Adult Track
Child/Family Track
In order to meet both individual
student needs and responsibilities to the profession, our curriculum
has two years
during which clinical students follow a common sequence succeeded
by the opportunity for individually arranged programs. The content
of the curriculum during the first two years is designed to ensure
that all students are thoroughly grounded in the theory and techniques
of their specialty area, to provide a solid foundation in research
methodology, and to make certain that develop core skills in evidence-based
treatments. During these two years, students also are
expected to complete their Master's
thesis.
The subsequent years of study include work on additional research
and the dissertation, advanced practicum work, elective courses,
and a one-year full-time internship. Two subspecialty areas - child/family
clinical and adult clinical - are available in the program. Within
each of these areas, additional specialization is achieved through
course selection, advanced practica, and research focus.
A broader overview and detailed description of the Clinical Program
can be found in the
Clinical Program Handbook
