Andrew Freeman wins Psi Chi Outstanding TA Award
Congratulations to Andrew on his selection as the Psi Chi Teaching Asssitant of the Year Award!

Erica Wise and Don Baucom win State awards for Contributions to Psychology
Erica has been awarded the Mary G. Clarke Award for 2008 from the North Carolina State Psychological Association. This is an award for "Outstanding Contributions to Psychology in North Carolina". At the same meeting, Don Baucom was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to Science and Teaching! These awards are presented annually by the North Carolina Psychological Association and reflect career contributions to practice, education or research in psychology.

UNC Clinical Program rated in National Top 10 - Again!

For over 10 years, UNC has been ranked by US News and World Report as one of the top 10 doctoral programs in clinical psychology nationally. In 2008, UNC Clinical Psychology was ranked #6 nationally.

David Roberts and Alecia Zalot both win Wallach Award, and Erica Wise wins Gallinsky Award
Each year, the Clinical Program recognizes graduate student excellence and superior accomplishment with the Wallach Award. This year, two awardees were selected. Congratulations to David and Alecia for this exceptional achievement!

The Gallinsky award recognizes outstanding clinical supervision, and is awarded by students in appreciation for an exceptional contribution to training. The third annual Gallinsky Award recipient was Erica Wise, recognized for her outstanding supervision.

Don Baucom wins UNC Mentor Award for Life Achievement
A very young Don Baucom has already won a Lifetime Achievement Award from UNC for his excellence as a Mentor. Congratulations to Don!

Eric Youngstrom named Associate Director of the Center for Excellence in Research and Treatment of Bipolar Disorder
Congratulations to Eric on this excellent achievement. This Research and Treatment center offers an outstanding opportunity to advance work on Bipolar Disorder among adults and youth.

David Roberts' and David Penn's Schizophrenia Treatment Gets National Media Coverage.
The innovative and exciting work of David Penn and his student David Roberts (now on Internship at Yale) has received national attention. See articles on ABC News and in The New Yorker.

Jon Abramowitz appointed Associate Chair of Psychology.
Once again, a clinical psychologist has been named to a position of leadership! This time, it's Jon Abramowitz who has been named the Associate Chair of Psychology. Congrats to Jon!

Karen Gil named UNC Senior Associate Dean for the Social Sciences
. Karen has been an outstanding Chair of the Department of Psychology, and we congratulate her on this most impressive appointment!

Shannon Couture wins Wallach Award and Michael Larter wins Gallinsky Award. Each year, the Clinical Program recognizes graduate student excellence and superior accomplishment with the Wallach Award. Shannon Couture was the 2007 recipient for her outstanding accomplishments. The Gallinsky award recognizes outstanding clinical supervision, and is awarded by students in appreciation for an exceptional contribution to training. The second annual Gallinsky award recipient was Michael Larter.

Abigail Judge awarded APA Koppitz Fellowship. We are extremely proud of Abigail on her selection for this national honor reflecting her outstanding work in clinical child psychology. Congratulations Abigail! Abigail also was selected by Psi Chi as the recipient of the Outstanding TA Award for the Department of Psychology for her work as an instructor. Congratulations!

Steffany Fredman wins Todd E. Husted Award from APA for her dissertation research on emotional overinvolvement and family-based treatment of bipolar disorders. Congratulations on this outstanding achivement!!

David Roberts selected for a NC Impact Award.
Dave is a recipient of this impressive award recognizing the impact that his research has had on the citizens of North Carolina. Congratulations to David!!!

Gaby Stein wins the 2007 APA/APAGS Distinguished Graduate Student Award in Professional Psychology
Congratulations to our own Gaby Stein for winning this highly competitive national APA award for her service in delivering psychological interventions to spanish-speaking populations!

Cory Chen and Amy Pinkham win Wallach Award
Each year, the Wallach award is offered to someone who has demonstrated superior competence, including excellence in research, clinical, teaching, or service endeavors. Congratulations to Cory and Amy on receiving this high honor!

Dean Gray-Little appointed UNC Provost.
Dean Gray-Little, a Professor in the clinical psychology program, was selected to serve as the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at UNC Chapel Hill. Congratulations to Dr. Gray-Little on this extraordinary achievement. UNC is lucky to be served by such strong leadership!

Professor Joe Lowman and David Roberts win teaching honors

This year’s UNC-Chapel Hill nominee for the UNC Board of Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching is Joseph Lowman of Chapel Hill, professor of clinical psychology. Established by the Board of Governors in April 1994 to underscore the importance of teaching and to reward good teaching across the UNC system, the awards are given annually to a tenured faculty member from each UNC campus. Congratulations also to David Roberts (clinical graduate student) for receiving a Tanner Teaching Assistants' Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

UNC mourns the loss of Professor David Galinsky
During his four decades of service to UNC, Professor Galinsky had served as the Director of Clinical Training and the Chair of the Department of Psychology. Although retired, he remained an active contributor to the clinical program as a clinical supervisor for the Davie Hall Psychological Services Clinic. UNC and the Department of Psychology mourn this tragic loss. A Memorial service is planned for Sunday, February 26, 2006 at 2pm at the UNC Tate, Turner, Kuralt School of Social Work located at 301 Pittsboro Street in Chapel Hill.

Clinical Students receive NRSA Awards
It has been another fruitful year for clinical psychology graduate students, with four successfully receiving NRSA awards from the National Institutes of Health. Congratulations to Matt Hersh, Steffany Fredman, Gaby Stein, and Ed Morrill.

Matt Mosconi and Naomi Wiesenthal Awarded Prestigious Fellowships
Congratulations to Matt Mosconi on the receipt of a predoctoral training fellowship from the National Alliance for Autism Research and to Naomi Wiesenthal on her receipt of the CCEP Predoctoral fellowship in Cancer Prevention and Control from the National Cancer Institute.

Steffany Fredman wins Wallach Award
The Wallach award recipient is selected on the basis of superior competence in all areas of graduate student performance, including excellence in research, clinical, teaching, and service endeavors.

Cory Chen and Chris Galloway win Baughman Dissertation Awards. Congratulations to both on this distinguished achievement!

Professor Lowman and Abigail Judge win Psi Chi Teaching Awards
For the second year in a row, clinical psychology instructors have won both Psi Chi teaching awards! Congratulations to Professor Joe Lowman (Teaching award) and graduate student Abigail Judge (TA award) on their recognition from Psi Chi.

David Penn wins UNC John L. Sanders Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Service

Karen Gil appointed Department Chair
Congratulations to Karen Gil, professor in clinical psychology, on her appointment as Chair of the Department of Psychology.

Bernadette Gray-Little appointed Dean of College of Arts and Sciences
Congratulations to Dr. Gray-Little, a member of the clinical psychology program, on her selection as Dean of the UNC College of Arts and Sciences.
