Other Professional Development Providers in the Triangle Area

This page links to information on teacher professional development activities offered by other offices of UNC Chapel Hill or by other providers within the greater Triangle area. All the links on this page lead outside the CMSE site.

Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education (CRMSE)
Located at NC State, CRMSE is the research and development center of the Mathematics and Science Education Network.
Education Future Center
The EFC is the distance learning network of the NC School of Science and Mathematics.
Fayetteville State Math/Science Education Center
Teachers on the south side of the Triangle should check out the offerings of our sister center at FSU!
Key Curriculum Press
Commercial workshops offered by Key Curriculum Press, publisher of Geometer's Sketchpad and other mathematics software products. Some of these workshops are offered in the Triangle area.
Morehead Planetarium
The Planetarium has an active program of courses and activities both for teachers and for students. There is a small fee for most of these activities; Planetarium members receive a discount.
NC Division of Conservation Education
This office of the Wildlife Resources Commission offers workshops on CATCH, WILD, and Aquatic WILD throughout the state. Current workshop schedules and registration information are always available.
NC Museum of Life and Science
The Museum's new web site provides information on its workshops for teachers (click on "Calendar").
NC School of Science and Mathematics
Several NCSSM units offer professional development for teachers, including the Distance Learning Department, the Educational Future Center, and the Mathematics and Science Education Center.
NC State Museum of Natural Sciences
The Museum offers Teacher Treks to outstanding sites in North Carolina and elsewhere. It also sponsors a professional development program called UTOTES (Using The Outdoors to Teach Experiential Science).
NCSU Department of Chemistry
The Department has an active program of activities for students and offers Operation Chemistry workshops for middle school and high school teachers.
NCSU-NASA NSCORT
This specialized NASA center, on the NCSU campus, is concerned with research on growing plants in the weightlessness of space. NSCORT has an active outreach program, including teacher workshops.
NC Supercomputing Center
NCSC offers Computational Chemistry as an online course, and it sometimes has other programs of interest to teachers.
NC Zoological Park
The Education Department of the NC Zoo, located near Asheboro, offers a number of workshops for teachers, usually during the summer.
National Institute of Environmental Health Science
Located in Research Triangle Park, the Institute has an active program of teacher support, including workshops, materials, lab internship opportunities, and a program that brings NIEHS scientists to the classroom.
The Science House
The learning outreach center of NCSU's College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Science House offers a number of teacher workshops.
Sea Grant North Carolina
Housed at NC State, Sea Grant has an active education and outreach program.
