North Carolina Middle Mathematics Project (NCM2)
Middle Math Institutes
--all new for
2008!

Institute Description:
Middle Math Summer Institutes are designed to support middle school mathematics teachers in meeting the grades 6, 7, and 8 North Carolina Standard Course of Study competencies in their classrooms.  Middle Math Summer Institutes are two days in length and provide grade level specific institutes focused on content knowledge, effective teaching strategies, and assessment methods that align with student academic performance standards in North Carolina. For 2008, the workshops feature all new activities, so they are suitable for teachers who have attended in the past, as well as for newcomers.

Separate sessions are provided for each grade level, 6, 7, and 8.

Instructors:

Jill Brown, Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill
Karen Ellis, Guilford County Schools
Sean Fitzgibbon, Randolph County Schools
Sherri Homan, Chatham County Schools
Bob Lindquist, Voyager Academy, Durham County
Katie McDermott, Wake County Schools

The instructors for these workshops are practicing middle school teachers who were participants in the North Carolina Middle Mathematics Project. The goal of the North Carolina Middle Mathematics project was to improve mathematics education in grades 6-8 across the entire state of North Carolina by developing a leadership network of middle grades mathematics teachers that would provide professional development to other middle school mathematics teachers across the state. Most of the instructors are Nationally Board Certified teachers in Early/Adolescence Mathematics and hold a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education.

2008 Institute Schedule (choose the one convenient for you):
