Welcome to CMSE

The Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) applies the resources of UNC Chapel Hill to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in the schools of North Carolina.

CMSE is a unit of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Education. Through the UNC Mathematics and Science Education Network, CMSE is teamed with nine other mathematics and science education centers at various campuses of the University of North Carolina. CMSE's services include two major efforts:

  1. The professional development of mathematics and science teachers at all grade levels through a variety of projects, courses, and institutes. Some of these projects are joint efforts with specific school systems, and others are open to certified teachers from all systems.
  2. The MSEN Pre-College Program, which works to increase the number of females and underserved minorities entering mathematics and science based careers. The Pre-College Program recruits students of grades 6-12 in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Durham Public Schools, and Orange County Schools.
