Pre-College Program Students Lead the State at MSEN Day
May 3, 1999: UNC-Chapel Hill Pre-College Program students, representing the Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Durham Public, and Orange County schools, brought home 20 winning medals, thus winning the overall competition between the six Pre-College sites throughout the state. Ten of the medals were first places, six were second places, and four were third places.
UNC Chapel Hill Receives $270,000 to Help K-12 Teachers
November 16, 1998: At its meeting November 13, the UNC Board of Governors approved almost $270,000 in new funding to UNC Chapel Hill for continuing education courses for North Carolina's mathematics and science teachers. The funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Education through the Eisenhower Higher Education program, will support eight new projects and one continuing project.
CMSE and Chatham County Plan Major Improvements in Science
September 29, 1998: The National Science Foundation has awarded $49,852 to CMSE, the Chatham County Schools, and the Chatham Education Foundation to plan for a "systemic reform" of Chatham's science teaching in grades K through 8. The funds will be used to plan a 4- or 5-year project involving new science curricula, professional development for teachers, and imporvements to facilities and resources for science instruction.
Project TIES CMSE to Chapel Hill and Granville
August 19, 1998: Teachers in three Chapel Hill and Granville County elementary schools can look forward to teaching science with new classroom technology as a result of new project co-sponsored by CMSE. The project, called TIES (Technology Integration Enhancing Science) received a grant of $150,000 approved by the NC State Board of Education on August 6.
