All teachers of grades K-5 and other interested educators

Dates:

  • K-1: Thursday, September 17, 2009
  • 2-3: Thursday, September 24, 2009
  • 4-5: Thursday, October 1, 2009

Time: 8:30-4:00

Location:

Carolina Center for Educational Excellence, adjacent to Smith Middle School, Chapel Hill; driving directions are available.

Credit:

1.0 units of license renewal credit if follow-up work is completed

Fees:

  • $60 for individuals
  • $50 per person for teams of 3 or more from an LEA attending the same grade level workshop

Registration:

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

AIMS Problem Solving Workshops Fall 2009

Course Description
This workshop is designed to address the problem solving goal in the new mathematics Standard Course of Study. The problem solving strategies are applicable to all subject areas. Participants will be actively engaged in activities as they learn about the AIMS problem solving strategies. Activities will be related to the goals and objectives of the SCS.

AIMS (Activities Integrating Mathematics and Science) is a nationally-acclaimed program designed to enrich the education of students in kindergarten through grade nine using a hands-on approach integrating mathematics and science.  All AIMS activities are designed around a Model of Learning that includes hands-on activities relating to the real world, recording and working with data, representing data in graph or pictorial form, and engaging in higher-order processes to make meaning of the activity.

Cost to LEAs
School systems should pay for participant’s registration of $60. For teams of 3 or more from an LEA attending the same workshop, the cost will be only $50 per person.
