Workshops and Institutes

Ever since it was founded in 1981, CMSE has offered workshops and institutes for the professional development of K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The nature and frequency of these offerings has changed many times in response to the continuous change in school curricula.

These activities do not carry academic credit, but they do carry license renewal credit approved by the NC Mathematics and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN). These credits are generally acceptable in all school systems. Some systems do require prior approval of professional development activities outside the system, so check with your principal or central office staff to find out if this approval is needed. (We have never heard of a case in which it was denied!)

Upcoming Workshops and Institutes include:

Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Leave No Child Behind, featuring Dr. Marcia L. Tate, nationally known consultant and author. This one-day conference will be held in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, September 15. Although we can't offer license renewal credit for a one-day conference alone, 1.0 unit of credit will be available to teachers willing to do some additional follow-up work on their own.
