1944 "secret game" between all-white Duke and all-black N.C. Central
Refreshments, screening, and Q&A with filmmaker Steve Channing, veteran civil rights lawyer, and Jim Johnson, William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of entrepreneurship and director of the Urban Investment Strategies Center.
Sensationalized in the national media and misunderstood in its own region, Durham tells its own story in Emmy-winning filmmaker Steven Channing’s documentary about the history of civil rights and race relations in Durham, including the 1944 “secret game” of basketball between an all-white team from Duke and all-black N.C. Central.
Screening sponsored by UNC’s Institute of African American Research and the Center for the Study of the American South.
