Center announces new Southern Studies Curriculum

The Center now has the initial plans in place to coordinate a Curriculum in Southern Studies that will be housed in the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC. Through this new curriculum, UNC students will have the opportunity to make the study of the South the primary focus of their university education, in turn offering the University and the entire South the benefits of teaching, research, and public service from a new generation of southern scholars.

Southern Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the South that invites students to combine persepctives from history, literature, music, folklore, social sciences, and public policy. Its methods are comparable to those found in other area-studies programs like American Studies

Well-endowed with Southern Studies faculty
The heart and soul of any great academic program is its faculty, and UNC already enjoys the world's best concentration of scholars from a variety of disciplines who specialize in the South. Click here to see faculty listing.
