Welcome to the South's Front Porch
Dedicated to exploring what makes the South the South
Published four times a year for the Center by UNC Press, Southern
Cultures provides a rich forum of animated, informed voices discussing
all aspects of southern life. For over 30 issues we’ve brought some
of the South’s most thoughtful writers together to talk about our
region’s art, folklore, literature, politics, and history. Pat Conroy,
Hodding Carter, Allan Gurganus, Doris Betts, C. Vann Woodward, Eugene
Genovese, Louis Rubin, and many more of the best minds of the South have
offered fresh looks at topics old and new (and often with a smile).
Each issue features insightful articles, entertaining columns, and captivating
photographs—all bound in an award-winning design.
From the Civil War and country music to baseball and Britney Spears,
we’ve got it covered. Reaching educated readers of all kinds, Southern
Cultures is the best place to access a public interested in every
aspect of the American South. And it’s growing faster than kudzu.
Paid circulation has grown to over 2,300—for a total readership
of 2,500.
