Instructors may currently select from the following templates:

weighted averages | standard scores | best of two equivalents | best of 2 of 3 exams

These CTL-designed grading templates can assist instructors in calculating course grades by providing accurate calculations in less time. The templates will work in any software that reads Excel file formats. Instructors may combine their electronic class rolls with these templates.

If you encounter problems with these templates or need modifications to suit your grading scheme, please contact Iola Peed-Neal (966-1289) at the Center for Teaching and Learning.

download letter grade template

download numeric grade template

Instructors use these templates to assign different weights (% of final grade) to up to eight items comprising a student's final grade. Depending on your testing procedures, select a template which accepts numeric grades or letter grades.

download accumulated points template

The accumulated points template enables instructors to assign a point value to up to eight graded course components. Each component may contribute a unique number of points toward a final course grade. The final grade is computed on the cumulative number of points earned on all course components, allowing a student's better performance on some components to be reflected in the final grade.

download standard scores template

Instructors use this template to create standard scores, or T-scores. This enables instructors to average raw scores from tests or other assignments. This template is most useful when instructors have graded items that yield a high degree of variability, that is, different means (averages) and different standard deviations (spreads of scores). The template includes all of the features of the Weighted Averages Template, in addition to the T-score calculation.

download best of 2 equivalents template

This template permits the student's final grade to reflect his/her best performance out of two assessments of the same course material. Instructors may enter grades for three 1-hour exams and a cumulative final exam. The higher of Part A on the final or 1st hour exam, Part B or 2nd hour exam, etc. are used to compute the final grade. Test score on material covered since the last hour exam is entered in Part D.

download best of 2 of 3 exams template

This template will average the two highest scores on three 1-hour exams, dropping the lowest score. This product is then combined with the score on the final to calculate the final grade. Instructors may assign different weights (% of final grade) to these components.
