Areas of Research : I am broadly interested in the ways in which proximal (i.e. maternal depression) and distal factors (i.e. financial resources, racism, neighborhood quality) influence parenting in African American families. Additionally, I am interested in the adaptive function of certain parenting practices (i.e. racial socialization) that promote children?s successfully navigation of the multiple contexts (i.e. school, home) in which their development takes place.
