Public Economics

Public Economics is the study of how governments behave and the effect of government on economic outcomes.

Koleman Strumpf is the primary faculty member in public finance at UNC. He teaches both the graduate and undergraduate courses in this field (Econ 240 and 141). Prof. Strumpf's research focuses on political economy, the formal study of politics, and the behavior of state and local governments. Currently, he is investigating the origins and effects of various institutions and policies such as fiscal decentralization.
